Rev. Kit Belk, 66, of Tucson, Arizona, passed away August 19, 2014, at Health South Rehabilitation Hospital in Tucson.
Kit was born January 19, 1948, in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Bernard and Jean (Mundt) Belk.
In June of 1974, he married Gay Goodchild who preceded him in death in March of 1985. On May 26, 1990, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Vallonia, Indiana, he married Julie Baute, who survives.
Kit graduated from Capital University in Columbus, Ohio, with a Bachelor’s Degree in 1969 and went on to Concordia Theological Seminary in Springfield, Illinois, graduating with a Master of Divinity Degree in 1973. He was ordained at his home congregation, Peace Lutheran in Detroit. He served as a pastor at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Buckeye, Iowa, Concordia Lutheran in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Trinity Lutheran and St. John’s Lutheran in Osage, Iowa, Trinity Lutheran Church in Vallonia, Indiana, and Trinity Lutheran Church in Girard, Illinois, retiring in 2008. He served Good Shepherd Lutheran in Medora, Indiana, briefly before moving to Tucson where he became Pastor Emeritus at Mount Olive Lutheran.
He is survived by his wife; his mother; children, Luther K. (fiancée Charlotte Bethel) Belk, Leah (David) Shoemaker, and Laina G. (Tony) Cafego; grandchildren, Aston, Bryton, and Caelyn Shoemaker, Cody and Andrew Cafego; brothers, the Rev. Jack (Elaine) Belk and Tom Belk; and sisters, Kay Belk and Jane (Jim) Hess.
He was preceded in death by his father and his first wife.
Funeral services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Vallonia on Monday, August 25, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Ralph Blomenberg officiating. Burial will be at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Vallonia. Friends may call at Voss Chapel on Sunday August 24, 2014, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. and on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mount Olive Lutheran Church Tucson, Trinity Lutheran Church in Vallonia, or Trinity Lutheran High School in Seymour.
