Eva Bernice Diel, 89, of Columbus, died at 12:30 a.m. Monday, April 23, 2012, at Four Seasons Health Care Center.
A funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at Hathaway-Myers Chapel, 1022 Pearl St., with the Rev. Gary Schaar officiating. Calling will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and one hour prior to the service Thursday. Interment will be at approximately 2:30 p.m. Thursday at New Harmony Cemetery in Terre Haute.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to First United Methodist Church of Columbus.

Born in Vigo County Nov. 22, 1922, Mrs. Diel was the daughter of Bernard C. and Julia Belle Holston Morris. She married Glenn A. Diel March 11, 1944, in New Haven, Conn. He preceded her in death in 2005.
Survivors include a son, the Rev. Jack A. Diel of Seelyville; daughters, Jill (Tom) Diel-McFarren of Beaver, PA, and Joy (Joe) Hilgenhold of Frankfort, IN; and a granddaughter, Traci (Paul) Golownia of Miami, FL.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four brothers, Charles, Gordon, James and Warren Robert Morris; and three sisters, Marabelle Watson, Roby Reed and Reta Mae Richmond
Mrs. Diel had worked in the Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation food services department for 20 years, retiring in 1983. She was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church, where she had been active in Naomi Circle, and was a member of the Bartholomew County Senior Center.
