James Nyle Brunner, 86, of North Vernon, passed away at 6:05 a.m. Saturday, May 5, 2012 at Covered Bridge Health Campus in Seymour.
Jim was born January 23, 1926, in Ridgway, Pennsylvania, the son of John and Rena Salome Gardner Brunner. He married A. Maxine Felter on November 27, 1949 at Hayden United Methodist Church. She preceded him in death on September 13, 2007.
Jim worked for 25 years as an "over the road," driver for Newsom Trucking Company in Columbus and spent 15 years driving for St. John Trucking in North Vernon. He was a lifelong farmer; he farmed from 80 to 320 acres and was a school bus driver for 10 years for Jennings County Schools. He joined the United States Navy in 1944 and was stationed in the South Pacific during World War II. He was active in the North Vernon Lions Club and was recognized as "Lion of the Year." He served on the Hayden Water Board and was a member of Hayden United Methodist Church. He enjoyed going out to eat, being outdoors, gardening and being with friends.
Jim is survived by his two sons, Ted (Marcia) Brunner and Jeff (Helen) Brunner, both of North Vernon; three daughters, Jeanne (Don) O'Donnell of Joplin, Missouri, Janis (Peter) Giddings and Connie (Andrew) Glasnapp, both of Houston, Texas; a sister, Maxine Schmock of Tacoma, Washington; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and 12 brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services with the Rev. Ed Mead officiating.
Calling will b e from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
Burial will be at Hayden Cemetery with members of Matt Hester Post #2021, V.F.W. providing military graveside rites.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hayden Historical Museum, Hospice of South Central Indiana or Hayden United Methodist Church through the funeral home.
