Kenneth E. Burbrink, age 93, of Columbus (Jonesville), went to be with his Lord early Sunday morning, June 10, 2012, at home with his family surrounding his bedside. Ken was born November 7, 1918, at the residence where he died. He was the son of Carl and Pearl (Wampler) Burbrink. Ken married Ruth June Busby on November 7, 1942, at the U.S. Marine Corps Base in Quantico, VA, and this year, they would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.
Following his graduation from Purdue University in 1940, Mr. Burbrink taught vocational agriculture in Moral Township for two years, operated the family farm for 26 years, and was a life insurance professional for 38 years. He was a lifetime member of the Seymour First Nazarene Church where he served as a church board member, Sunday School superintendent and, most recently, as a teacher of senior adults until 2011. Ken served his country 15 years, having served during World War II, and was honorably discharged at the rank of Captain from the U.S. Marine Corps.
Survivors include his best friend and wife, June; his daughter, Jane (Don) Dunnington; and his son, Curtis L. (Jerri) Burbrink. Ken also had six grandsons, Deron (Deawn) Dunnington, Jason Dunnington, Kevin (Alisha) Dunnington, Justin (Laura) Burbrink, Jerad Burbrink, and Joel (Becky) Burbrink. He also was blessed with 12 great-grandchildren, Hannah, Hailey, Luca, Petra, Henry and George Dunnington, Beau, Brayden, Brooklyn, Brock, Kingen and Ava June Burbrink.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Meredith, who died in infancy.
Friends can call Tuesday, June 12, from 4:00 p.m.until 8:00 p.m. at Seymour First Nazarene Church at 311 Myers Street. The funeral will be Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at the church, conducted by Pastors Steve Greene, Joel Burbrink and Don Dunnington. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery with military graveside honors.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to Seymour First Church of the Nazarene, Hospice of Schneck Medical Center or to the Burbrink-Dunnington Ministry Endowed Scholarship at Olivet Nazarene University.
