James Alan Wood, 59, of Greensburg, passed away at 6:32 p.m. on Friday, June 8, 2012, at St. Francis Hospital in Indianapolis, after an extended illness.

Born July 28, 1952, in Greensburg, he graduated from Greensburg High School in 1970 and had been a lifelong resident of Decatur County. He was employed by the State of Indiana Military Department, where he worked for over 25 years, and had worked for Shelby County Community Corrections for nine years. He was a member of Brownsville Masonic Lodge No. 70 F.&A.M.

Mr. Wood was a veteran having served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era and also with the Indiana National Guard. He enjoyed fishing, camping, his grandkids, reading, woodworking and tinkering with cars.

He married Rhonda Lynn McIntosh in Edinburgh, and she survives along with his daughters, Amanda S. (Todd) Lindsey of Greensburg, Brandy R. (David) Allen of Indianapolis, and Allyssa (Dale) Reincke of Greensburg; his son, Thomas Wood of North Vernon; his brother, Lloyd Edwin (Patricia) Buell of Liberty; and 14 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Inez Virginia “Peggy” (Wood) Buell.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, June 14, 2012, at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport with Pastor Barry Morton officiating. Burial will follow at Union Presbyterian Cemetery, with military graveside rites. A time of visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. with a Masonic memorial service at 7:00 p.m.
