Mary Opal (Buchele) Harris, 92, of Nashville, passed away June 18, 2012, at the Brown County Health & Living Community. She was born March 13, 1920, in Canaan, IN, the daughter of Otto E. and Elmo E. (Ross) Buchele. They preceded her in death.
Mary was a former employee of R.C.A. in Bloomington, Charlestown Powder Plant in Charlestown, IN, The Republic and Bob Evans, both in Columbus. She was a member of Harmony Baptist Church, where she played the piano, Order of Eastern Star Hayden Chapter No. 253, AARP, Senior Citizens in Columbus, Van Buren Fire Department, where she served on the board, baked and cooked for fund raisers, and was a caregiver for Alzheimer’s patients.
Her funeral service will be held Saturday, June 23, at 11:00 a.m. at Harmony Baptist Church, 3999 Mount Liberty Road, Nashville, with Rev. Greg Brown officiating. Burial will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Madison, IN. The family will receive visitors on Saturday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
Survivors include sons, Keith Ray Harris, Mount Washington, KY., and Dwight Douglas Johnson, Franklin, IN; four grandsons; one granddaughter; several great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins; and Shirley Reed, Bloomington, who was her caregiver for several years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ben Harris, and two sisters, Francie Meek and Helen J. Copeland.
