Mary Ann Ruff, age 81, of Longboat Key, Florida, died Friday, June 22, 2012, at home.
She grew up in Springfield, Illinois, and attended the University of Illinois, graduating in 1952 with a degree in Education. One of her outstanding accomplishments was leading her Chi Omega Sorority to victory in the highly prestigious University vocal competition.
She was married to Robert T. Ruff in 1952 and is survived by him and their two daughters, Katheryn Ruff, her husband, Stephen B. Lewis, and their two children, Remy and Graham of Chicago, and Elizabeth Rutledge, her husband, Aaron Rutledge, and their two children, Lauren and Lily of Orlando.
Mary Ann taught kindergarten and third grade for several years following graduation and then became a full time homemaker in their Columbus, Indiana, home for almost 30 years. On retirement to Longboat Key, she became very active in the University of Illinois Alumni Club serving as President for 10 years. She was also involved with two women's associations, Alums and Sequel, and with the Sarasota Symphony and the Sarasota Opera Guild. Music always had a strong influence on her life.

A memorial celebration will be held on July 2, at the Longboat Key Club for family and friends.
Mary Ann will be buried at a private graveside ceremony in Springfield, IL.
