Kenneth “Pete” Steffey, 86, peacefully passed away on Friday, July 20, 2012, at his home in Greenwood.
Born March 8, 1926, to the late Marshal and Maude (Franklin) Steffey, he was a 1944 graduate of Southport High School and then served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific.
He married Mary Ann Morgan in 1947 and managed Morgan’s Restaurant.
He was a lieutenant at the Marion County Sheriff’s Department under Sheriff Robert A. O’Neal.
In 1964, he and Mary Ann opened Pete Steffey’s Restaurant at the corner of Smith Valley Road and U.S. 31, where it remained for 23 years.
Pete was a devoted family man and will be missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Mary Ann; children, Susan Steffey, Mike (Millie) Steffey, Carol Steffey, Jenny (Steve) Blankenship, Kathy (Dave) Kolger; his grandchildren, Krista Beasley, Cara Kelsay, Aaron Steffey, Travis, Kevin (Elizabeth), Julie and Kyle Blankenship and Chris and Chelsea Kolger; his great-grandchildren, Justin, Drew and Lauren Beasley; and sister, Patricia Inman.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Ellis; and siblings, Norbert and Wilbur Steffey and Christine Tucher.
Visitation will be 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at G. H. Herrmann Greenwood Funeral Home at The Gardens at Olive Branch, 1605 S. State Road 135. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Roch Catholic Church, of which he was a member. He will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery in Indianapolis.
