LINCOLN PARK, Mich. — A lawyer for a Detroit-area woman who continued to get food stamps despite winning a Michigan lottery jackpot says his client is eager to repay the government aid.
Amanda Clayton is charged with failing to inform the state that her income had changed as a result of the lottery prize and a job. The 25-year-old from Lincoln Park won a $1 million jackpot on the game show "Make Me Rich!" and chose a $735,000 pre-tax lump sum last September.
Defense lawyer John Dakmak says Clayton "is looking forward to making restitution however the case comes out" and repayment never was a sticking point.
Clayton waived her Tuesday preliminary examination in Lincoln Park, sending the case to Wayne County Circuit Court for trial.
Her next appearance is for arraignment June 5.
