Turkey detains around 10 people suspected of links to banned group in Istanbul neighborhood

ISTANBUL — Turkey's state-run Anadolu Agency says police have detained more than 10 people with suspected links to a banned left-wing group.

The arrests in an Istanbul neighborhood early Thursday follow a deadly hostage situation on Tuesday, when a prosecutor and two gunmen holding him at an Istanbul courthouse were killed in a shootout with police. Authorities believe the hostage takers belonged to the left-wing DHKP-C group.

Police on Wednesday also killed a woman — believed to be a DHKP-C militant — who was carrying a bomb near the city's main police headquarters.

Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu has vowed to track down accomplices of the courthouse hostage standoff.

Around 30 other DHKP-C suspects were detained in the cities of Antalya, Izmir and Eskisehir on Wednesday.
