Upstate NY physician cleared of fraudulently billing federal benefit programs and insurers

UTICA, New York — A physician from central New York has been cleared of federal charges that he improperly billed federal benefit programs and private insurers $12 million for patient services.

The U.S. Attorney's Office says a jury found Dr. Dilip Kachare (kah-SHAR'-ee) of Utica not guilty Friday of 19 charges during a retrial that started in June. Another jury deadlocked in the case in November.

Kachare was originally charged in 2012 with overbilling Medicare, Medicaid and numerous insurers over the course of 10 years.
