AMORY, Mississippi — The state Department of Transportation was hosting a special dedication ceremony Thursday for a portion of Mississippi Highway 6 in Monroe County as a "Military Order of the Purple Heart Highway."

The designation will be for the portion of Highway 6 in Monroe County at the Lee County line and extending southeast to Highway 25 near Amory.

MDOT will erect and maintain appropriate signs along and approaching this segment of highway.

Purple Heart, the nation's oldest military decoration, is presented to members of the armed forces wounded or killed while serving their country.
