St Johnstone finishes 3rd in Scottish league, reaches Europa League for 2nd straight year

GLASGOW, Scotland — St. Johnstone secured a spot in the Europa League for the second straight season by beating Motherwell 2-0 on Sunday to finish third in the Scottish Premier League.

Inverness started the final day of the season in third place but lost 1-0 at Ross County to end up two points behind St. Johnstone.

Celtic finished 16 points clear at the top after wrapping up its title-winning campaign with a 4-0 win at Dundee United, with Georgios Samaras' double adding to goals by Kris Commons and Anthony Stokes.

Motherwell finished second to claim the league's other Europa League berth.
