CRANSTON, Rhode Island — The American Red Cross says it is helping 14 people from three families after flames swept through a multi-family home in Cranston.

The fire broke out late Wednesday morning in a building on Florida Avenue. A police officer who was near the scene at the time helped get residents to safety and no injuries were reported.

Six adults and eight children were forced out of their homes by the fire. The Red Cross says it is helping the families with emergency housing, food and clothing.
