BURLINGTON, North Carolina — Investigators say one man was killed and a second critically injured in a shooting at a Burlington motel where several hundred people were gathered for a party.

Police said in a news release that 24-year-old David Williams died a short time after he was shot around 2:30 a.m. Sunday.

Authorities say Williams was at a party at the Quality Inn in Burlington to celebrate the release of an album.

Burlington police say there were so many people at the motel at the time of the shooting, they asked five other police agencies for help handling the crowd.

No arrests have been made. Police are urging anyone who was at the party and knows what happened to talk to investigators and not seek out retaliation on their own.
