Apartment fire leaves 8 without homes, causes no injuries


KIRKLAND, Washington — An apartment fire in Kirkland has left eight people displaced, but caused no injuries.

The Seattle Times reports ( ) that the Kirkland Fire Department responded to a call to the three-story apartment building on 91st Avenue Northeast at 11:15 a.m. Saturday and found heavy smoke and flames.

Fire Battalion Chief Kenneth Henderson says the fire was centered in the second story and was contained to one of six units. He says some of the surrounding units suffered smoke damage.

Henderson says the person who lived in the unit was not home at the time of the fire and no one was injured. The cause is under investigation.
