CANISTEO, New York — State police have charged a western New York teenager with vehicular manslaughter for the death of another teen in an alcohol-related New Year's Eve crash on a Southern Tier road.

Troopers say they arrested 18-year-old Thomas Flynn of Hornell on Tuesday.

Flynn was charged with driving while intoxicated after troopers say he crashed a 2001 Ford Ranger on county Route 29 in the Steuben (stoo-BEHN') County town of Canisteo late on the night of Dec. 31.

Police say he skidded across the oncoming lane of traffic and colliding with a tree. His passenger, 19-year-old Hunter Kolesar of Hornell, died on New Year's Day at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pennsylvania.

It couldn't be determined if Flynn has a lawyer.
