Businessman proposes medical marijuana dispensary in Franklin

FRANKLIN, New Hampshire — A medical marijuana dispensary has been proposed in Franklin, New Hampshire, after the state passed a law allowing seriously ill residents to use marijuana to treat their illnesses.

Paul Morrissette, who owns Regal Auction Services and several other commercial properties in Franklin, tells the Concord Monitor ( he's working with a Massachusetts organization to develop an application.

Morrissette estimates 3,000 patients could use the site. Franklin is about 30 minutes from five hospitals and an hour from about a dozen.

New Hampshire has until Jan. 23, 2015, to select at least two "alternative treatment centers." At most, the state will license four centers divided among four geographical areas.

A similar proposal has been introduced in Epping.
