Illinois woman dies when personal watercraft strikes cables on northern Indiana lake

Share/Save/Bookmark

MONTICELLO, Indiana — An Indiana conservation officer says an Illinois woman has died after a boating accident on Lake Shafer in northern Indiana.

Officer Matt Tholen says 43-year-old Anne Wittstock of Burbank, Illinois, was pronounced dead at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis following the accident Saturday.

Tholen says Wittstock drove a personal watercraft into security cables that are stretched across the lake to keep boaters away from the Norway Dam, about 75 miles northwest of Indianapolis. Tholen says nearby boaters were able to recover Wittstock from the water and began CPR.

He says a male passenger riding on Wittstock's craft wasn't injured.
