JERSEY CITY, New Jersey — A mother is crediting her 11-year-old son with raising the alarm and helping save his family from a house fire in Jersey City.

The two-alarm fire broke out early Monday in the three-story home on Arlington Avenue.

Tajajuan Womack tells The Jersey Journal (http://bit.ly/1isb00j ) he awoke and smelled smoke coming from his window.

He says he ran to his mother's room, banged on her door and yelled there was a fire.

Wanda Womack says she woke up her two other children, her sister and her sister's boyfriend. Everyone escaped before the fire spread.

It took firefighters about an hour to get the fire under control.

The cause is under investigation.
