ROCKY MOUNT, Virginia — A Franklin County woman accused of killing a 3-year-old boy she was caring for has been indicted by a grand jury.

Commonwealth's Attorney A.J. Dudley tells media outlets that 29-year-old Hope McVey Perdue was indicted Monday on charges of second-degree murder and felony child abuse.

Perdue was charged May 12 after her husband called 911 and said one of the children the couple was keeping appeared to have been beaten. The boy, Callen Lee Mullins, was treated by emergency crews but died at the scene.

Perdue left the residence before deputies arrived. She was found about 12 hours later in a garage at another residence.

Perdue is due in court April 26 for a motions hearing. A trial date is also expected to be set.
