BOSTON — Democratic U.S. Senate hopeful Edward Markey has agreed to release several years of his tax returns.
A spokesman for Markey said he will release the returns on Friday going back to 2005. That's more than his Republican rival Gabriel Gomez, who released several years of tax returns during the Republican primary.
Gomez and state Republican leaders had ramped up pressure on Markey to release his returns.
Markey spokesman Andrew Zucker called on Gomez to release his 2005 returns.
Those returns could include additional details about a $281,000 tax deduction Gomez took for promising not to alter his historic Cohasset home, which he and his wife bought for $2.1 million in 2004.
Local bylaws had prevented changes to the facade of the home raising questions about whether the easement awarded to a nonprofit group had monetary value.
