6 people rescued from sinking boat near Grand Isle by US Coast Guard, no one injured

GRAND ISLE, Louisiana — Six people were rescued from a sinking boat near Grand Isle by the U.S. Coast Guard.

The boaters were on a 22-foot recreational boat approximately 14 miles north of Grand Isle in the Barataria waterway when their boat capsized Sunday.

The Coast Guard said in a news release the boat capsized due to excessive flooding brought on by the bad weather.

The Coast Guard was notified of the sinking boat by the Grand Isle Police Department.

The news release says responders were able to find all six passengers within 20 minutes; the boaters were brought back to the Coast Guard station in Grand Isle where they were evaluated by paramedics.

The Coast Guard says one was injured and all six boaters were wearing life jackets.
