LAS VEGAS — A Las Vegas man has been convicted in the beating death of his 7-year-old stepson two years ago.

A Clark County District Court jury on Friday found 36-year-old Markiece Palmer guilty of first-degree murder and child abuse in the death of Roderick "R.J." Arrington.

He's accused of beating the boy over unfinished homework and an unread Bible chapter.

Palmer's 28-year-old wife, Dina Palmer, initially faced a murder charge after her son was hospitalized with bruises and a brain injury in November 2012 and died soon after.

But she testified against her husband after pleading guilty in September to two counts of child abuse in a plea agreement.

The boy was a second-grader at Roundy Elementary School.
