Congregation meets in new building 2 years after Thanksgiving Day fire destroyed Ohio church

CARDINGTON, Ohio — Two years after a Thanksgiving Day fire destroyed one Ohio county's only Roman Catholic church, its parishioners are gathering under a new roof.

The blaze in 2013 destroyed Sacred Hearts Church in Cardington, about 40 miles north of Columbus. No one was hurt.

WBNS-TV ( ) reports it was rebuilt with insurance money and donations from individuals. Parishioner Kim Janick says more than 500 people donated to the fundraising campaign, which took a year.

As others across the country were giving thanks on Thursday, the Sacred Hearts congregation celebrated Mass in its new building. Janick says it brought her to tears.
