Ticket sold in Detroit suburb of Mount Clemens wins $66 million Mega Millions jackpot

MOUNT CLEMENS, Michigan — Friday the 13th turned out to be a lucky day for someone who bought a Mega Millions ticket at a Detroit-area convenience store.

The ticket sold at Sonny Tarhini's Mount Clemens gas station and store won a $66 million jackpot up for grabs Friday in the multistate lottery game.

"Not yet," Tarhini said Saturday, when The Macomb Daily asked if knew the winner's identity. "It's too early to tell. I hope (the winner is) one of my regulars."

Tarhini's business, which he has owned since 2006, is not far from the Macomb County Circuit Court building's parking structure downtown.

Selling lottery tickets is a big part of his trade.

"Especially Mega Millions," said Tarhini, who did not expect to learn the ticket-buyer's identity until Monday.

Lottery games typically offer commissions to businesses that sell jackpot-winning tickets, but Tarhini said he does not know how much he might receive.

The $66 million jackpot has an estimated cash value of $37.9 million, WWJ-AM reported.

Twenty Michigan ticket-buyers also won $500 in Friday's drawing.
