West Chicago man sentenced to 18 years in prison for sexually assaulting girl at knifepoint

WHEATON, Illinois — DuPage County prosecutors say an 18-year-old West Chicago man has been sentenced to 18 years in prison for sexually assaulting a girl in a home they shared with other family members.

State's Attorney Robert Berlin announced that Juan Hernandez was sentenced Monday by Judge Blanche Hill Fawell after pleading guilty to aggravated criminal sexual assault with a weapon.

Authorities say that in late 2012, Hernandez, then 16, forced the girl at knifepoint into a bedroom, holding the knife to her chest while he sexually assaulted her.

The victim told her family what had happened, and they contacted authorities. Hernandez was arrested about a month later, after an investigation by the DuPage County Children's Center and the West Chicago Police Department.
