LOUISVILLE, Kentucky — Authorities are investigating the death of an inmate in Louisville.
Louisville Metro Corrections said 49-year-old Robert W. Brown of Louisville was pronounced dead in his cell around 7:55 a.m. Sunday.
Brown was arrested Saturday night on several charges and transported to Metro Corrections. After a medical evaluation, Metro Corrections spokesman Jason Vincent said Brown was transported to University of Louisville Hospital for medical attention. Vincent didn't elaborate on the reason for the medical care.
After being released from the hospital, Brown returned to corrections around 2:30 a.m. and was booked into the facility. Correction officials said Brown was standing in his single cell at 6:47 a.m. But about 20 minutes later, they said he was found lying on the floor unresponsive.
Attempts to revive Brown were unsuccessful. Officials say an autopsy is being performed.
