Woman, 69, suffers facial injuries when boat hits pound net on Long Island


SOUTHAMPTON, New York — Southampton police say a 69-year-old woman has suffered severe facial injuries after she was struck by a fisherman's line while a passenger on a boat off Long Island.

Authorities say the boat operated by a 45-year-old man from the Sag Harbor area struck a pound net in the Little Peconic Bay near Jessup's Neck. The woman, who is from the Southampton area, was hit by a line attached to the pound net. It happened around 7 p.m. Sunday.

The boat's operator contacted police and officers and an ambulance met him at the dock.

An investigation is continuing.
