19-year-old sentenced to 45 years in prison for killing mother, sister


WEATHERFORD, Texas — A North Texas teen has been sentenced to 45 years in prison for fatally shooting his mother and younger sister at their home in 2012.

The Weatherford Democrat ( reports 19-year-old Jake Evans pleaded guilty to two murder counts Thursday in state district court in Weatherford for killing 48-year-old Jami Evans and 15-year-old Mallory Evans in October 2012. Jake Evans was 17 when he shot the two, then called 911 operators to report what he'd done.

Asked why he'd killed the pair, Evans In the dispatcher that he didn't know but had been planning on killing them "for a while."

Evans, who's about to turn 20, must serve at least 22½ years in prison before becoming eligible for parole and will receive credit for the 2½ years already served.
