LOS ANGELES — Los Angeles County sheriff's officials say deputies shot and killed a suspect who ran through residential yards after crashing his car following a pursuit.

Deputy Trina Schrader tells City News Service that witnesses to the crash Thursday in the Walnut Park area told deputies the suspect was armed.

Schrader says deputies opened fire when the suspect reached for his waistband after breaking into two occupied residences.

The suspect died at the scene. No weapon was found.

A female passenger of his car was taken into custody.

Authorities say the pursuit began after the suspect avoided a traffic stop.
