COLUMBIA, South Carolina — A man accused of kidnapping a missing Richland County teen has been sentenced to more than 17 years in prison on federal ammunition charges.
Fifty-three-year-old Freddie Grant faced a possible life sentence at his hearing Thursday.
Investigators found a box of shotgun shells and a box of .38 caliber bullets in Grant's home while they were searching for clues in the disappearance of Gabbiee Swainson. She has not been seen since Aug. 18, and Grant is awaiting trial in her abduction.
Grant's criminal record makes it against the law for him to have guns or bullets. His daughter testified the bullets belonged to her, but a jury convicted Grant in January of being a felon in possession of ammunition.
His attorney says he plans to appeal that verdict.
