BOSTON — Boston police are investigating a shooting that left a young woman dead.

The victim has been identified as Dawnn Jaffier, a 26-year-old city resident.

Police said officers assigned to a parade heard gunshots shortly after 8 a.m. on Saturday and later found the victim in the area of Charlotte and Blue Hill Avenues in the Dorchester neighborhood. She was taken to a hospital where she later died.

A second woman was found nearby with non-life threatening gunshot injuries.

Police said they questioned three men after the shooting. Two were later released, but a third was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm.

It was not immediately clear if the incident was connected to the parade, part of the city's annual Caribbean Carnival.
