New company joins as member of advanced manufacturing research center in Virginia

PRINCE GEORGE, Virginia — An advanced manufacturing research center in Prince George County is getting a new partner.

Officials say RTI International Metals Inc. has joined the Commonwealth Center for Advanced Manufacturing.

The Pittsburgh-based company is a supplier for the aerospace, defense, energy and medical device industries. The company will participate in generic research at the center.

The Commonwealth Center for Advanced Manufacturing does research for a group of manufacturing companies under a partnership with Virginia Tech, Virginia State University, Virginia Commonwealth University, Old Dominion University and the University of Virginia.

The consortium that supports the center's research includes Rolls-Royce, Newport News Shipbuilding and Siemens.
