Ohio ex-doctor charged with raping, killing expectant mother drops request to modify bond

DELAWARE, Ohio — An ex-Ohio doctor charged with raping and killing an expectant mother has dropped a request to modify the conditions of his house arrest to allow him to run errands.

Ali Salim wanted permission to shop for groceries and take his car to be serviced on top of trips already allowed to see his attorney and go to court.

Delaware County Prosecutor Carol O'Brien opposed Salim's request, calling him a flight risk and a threat to public safety.

Salim's attorney Sam Shamansky says he withdrew the request at a Delaware County court hearing Friday after it became clear the request would be denied.

Salim has pleaded not guilty to killing 23-year-old Deanna Ballman after she answered what investigators say was a personal ad placed by Salim last summer.
