Police: 77-year-old driver killed in crash may have had medical issue before running off road

LEDYARD, Connecticut — Police say a man has been killed and his passenger seriously injured after his car went off the road in Ledyard and crashed.

Ledyard police say 77-year-old John McGrenery of Monroe was pronounced dead at a Norwich hospital after Friday night accident.

Authorities are investigating if he may have had a medical emergency before his 2009 Chevy Malibu ran off Iron Street, Route 214, at about 10:45 p.m.

Police said 77-year-old Trudy McGrenery was injured and was taken to the hospital for evaluation.
