Morton man loses appeal of conviction in 2010 slaying before Court of Appeals

JACKSON, Mississippi — The state Court of Appeals has upheld the life sentence given a Scott County man convicted in a 2010 slaying.

Timothy Joseph Patterson was convicted in 2011 of murder in the death of 28-year-old Michael Guy. Patterson was sentenced to life in prison.

Prosecutors say Guy was shot to death on May 9, 2010, at a home in Morton where Patterson and others were watching a fight on television.

Defense attorneys say Patterson never intended to harm Guy.

The Appeals Court rejected Patterson's arguments that his attorney should have done a better job and that prosecutors didn't prove his guilt.

The court says there was undisputed testimony that Patterson shot Guy once in the head and then stood over Guy and shot him in the head a second time.
