Jury convicts Lansing man in toddler's death

LANSING, Michigan — The ex-boyfriend of a Lansing woman has been convicted in the slaying and torture of her 2-year-old son.

The Lansing State Journal reports (http://on.lsj.com/18iTs3B ) that an Ingham County Circuit Court jury found 25-year-old Marcus Hill guilty Friday of felony murder, torture and first-degree child abuse in the death of Brandon Kemp.

A jury convicted Brandon's mother, Mercedes Kemp, in March of second-degree murder, torture and child abuse. She is serving 25 to 50 years in prison.

Hill was Mercedes Kemp's live-in boyfriend when Brandon died in April 2012. A pathologist testified that the boy's lungs were bruised and his liver split in two.

Hill faces life in prison when sentenced.
