NORFOLK, Virginia — Virginia State Police say a Norfolk man was killed when he wrecked his vehicle while fleeing police.

State police spokeswoman Sgt. Michele Anaya identified the man as 25-year-old Sherman Rodney Brown.

Anaya says in a news release that a trooper observed Brown's vehicle traveling more than 100 miles per hour Sunday and pulled it over near the I-64/Interstate 264 interchange. The vehicle fled at a high rate of speed before the trooper could complete the traffic stop.

Brown lost control when he tried to take an exit and the vehicle ran off the road and hit a tree.

Anaya says Brown wasn't wearing a seat belt. He was the only person in the vehicle.
