Vermont clinches No. 2 seed in America East tourney with 64-49 victory over New Hampshire

BURLINGTON, Vermont — Trae Bell-Haynes scored 21 points, Dre Wills added 16 and Vermont held New Hampshire to its lowest scoring output of the season with a 64-49 victory on Wednesday night.

Vermont (17-11, 12-3 America East) clinched the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament.

Bell-Haynes and Wills combined for 14 points in the first half as the Catamounts built a 31-23 lead. New Hampshire climbed back, taking a 40-37 lead before Vermont answered with a 14-0 run to make it 54-41 with 6:30 left and cruised from there.

New Hampshire (17-11, 10-5) had its four-game winning streak snapped and dropped to fourth place, a game back of Stony Brook. The Wildcats, who came in as the highest scoring team in the conference averaging 68 points per game, were held to just 34 percent shooting and 3 of 16 from long range (19 percent).

Jacoby Armstrong led the Wildcats with 20 points.
