MONTE SERENO, California — Santa Clara County prosecutors have dropped charges against one of the defendants in the slaying of a wealthy Silicon Valley venture capitalist at his Monte Sereno mansion.
The San Francisco Chronicle reported on Sunday (http://bit.ly/Zoe0Ef) that investigators were able to confirm 26-year-old Lukis Anderson's alibi — that he was drunk and unconscious at a hospital during the November attack on 66-year-old Raveesh Kumra. Anderson, who was facing a murder charge, was released from jail on Thursday.
Prosecutors say Anderson's DNA was found on Kumra, but that it appears to have gotten there from contact the two had prior to the attack.
Four other defendants continue to face charges in the slaying.
Authorities believe Kumra and his wife were targeted by gang members with ties to prostitutes Kumra frequented. The assailants made off with valuables from the home.
