WASHINGTON — Metropolitan Police have arrested a driver after a pedestrian was struck and pinned against a tree, killing her.
Officers say about 2:45 p.m. Sunday, a car was traveling on First Street in southwest and tried to turn right onto South Capitol Street.
Police say the driver lost control of the car and mounted the curb, striking 58-year-old Emmajean Gainey of Washington. Gainey was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver, 49-year-old Maria Nicole Werts of Washington, was charged with involuntary manslaughter and driving while intoxicated.
