Plymouth sheriff's office says jail inmate has died of apparent self-inflicted injuries

PLYMOUTH, Massachusetts — Plymouth authorities say a county jail inmate has died of apparent self-inflicted injuries.

The sheriff's department said Tuesday that 34-year-old Steven Wayne Roderick of Hyannis was found unresponsive in his cell by correction officers just after 9:30 p.m. Monday. He was taken to a hospital.

Roderick was awaiting trial in Barnstable Superior Court on home invasion and aggravated rape charges related to an incident in Hyannis in March.

The Plymouth district attorney and state police are investigating his death.
