Diver hospitalized in Sioux Falls after problem during underwater training exercise

SIOUX FALLS, South Dakota — A volunteer diver is hospitalized in Sioux Falls after he was pulled up from the water unresponsive during a training exercise.

Minnehaha County Emergency Management Director Lynn DeYoung says the 43-year-old Sioux Falls resident was participating in a multi-agency training event in Family Park at about 8 p.m. Thursday.

DeYoung says the tethered diver gave four tugs to indicate a problem, and crews on scene rescued him within two minutes. DeYoung says visibility is near zero in the dark Family Park lake.

Eleven divers and two city fire rescue crews were on scene at the time.

The man's name and condition have not been released.
