GREENWOOD, South Carolina — Authorities say a Greenwood man was struck and killed by a train after he walked around the crossing gates and tried to cross the tracks.

Investigators said 55-year-old Samuel Anderson died at the hospital a short time after he was hit Saturday.

Authorities say the crossing gates had come down as the train approached a crossing in Greenwood, but Anderson ignored the warnings.

The coroner ruled Anderson's death an accident caused by blunt-force trauma.
