Ex-CMU student gets jail time in poisoning case

MOUNT PLEASANT, Michigan — A former Central Michigan University student accused of putting bleach in her roommate's glass of iced tea following a dispute over dirty dishes will spend four months under house arrest and four months in jail.

The Morning Sun of Mount Pleasant reports (http://bit.ly/14brKlX ) that Kayla Bonkowski also was sentenced Friday in Isabella County Trial Court to three years' probation.

Bonkowski of Sterling Heights is 18 weeks pregnant.

She pleaded guilty last month in the attempted poisoning of Emily Joseph at their off-campus apartment in November.

The 19-year-old Bonkowski described Joseph as her best friend. They were in the same college sorority at the Mount Pleasant school, about 120 miles northwest of Detroit

Bonkowski's record will be cleared if she successfully completes probation and other conditions.
