Maine cruise ship season begins with port call in Bar Harbor

BAR HARBOR, Maine — The cruise ship season has begun in Maine.

The 720-foot Holland America ship Veendam made a port call Sunday in Bar Harbor, kicking off what is expected to be the town's busiest cruise ship season yet.

Bar Harbor has booked 135 ships for the season, which would break the current record of 108 ships, set last year.

Portland is expecting 58 cruise ships to make port calls, with the first arrival scheduled for June 1.
