Portland man killed by drinking buddies, say court records unsealed by judge

PORTLAND, Maine — Court records unsealed by a Maine judge say a Portland man who was found dead in his apartment was beaten, kicked and bashed in the head with furniture by drinking companions.

Fred Akoa was found dead on Aug. 11. The Portland Press Herald ( ) reports an unsealed affidavit details how police learned of Akoa's death more than a day after his killing.

The records give no indication of a motive. Police arrested Portland residents Abil Teshome, Mohamud Mohamed and Osman Sheikh and charged them with murder in connection with Akoa's death earlier this month. The three men did not enter pleas in a court appearance last week.

Detectives who arrived at Akoa's apartment found it in disarray, with empty beer cans on a counter and clothes and trash strewn around.
