13 homeless, firefighter injured in fire at North Charleston apartment building


NORTH CHARLESTON, South Carolina — North Charleston firefighters are investigating the cause of a fire that damaged an apartment building leaving 13 people homeless.

A firefighter was also injured in the Thursday morning fire.

Authorities tell local media outlets that the fire broke out shortly after 8:30 a.m. in a two-story building with six apartments. Nine adults and four children were left homeless.

One firefighter was taken to the Medical University of South Carolina. Authorities said the injuries were not serious.

No injuries were reported among those who lived in the building.
