Helicopter rescues hiker injured in Snohomish County, Wash., fall

EVERETT, Washington — A Snohomish County sheriff's spokeswoman says a helicopter has rescued a 28-year-old male hiker injured when he fell about 50 feet in steep terrain about a quarter mile from the summit of Mount Pugh.

Spokeswoman Shari Ireton said earlier that the helicopter had to abort the planned hoist due to weather. However, the weather cleared Wednesday night and the air rescue was accomplished. The hiker was being flown to an Everett, Washington, hospital.

The man was reported to be conscious. His name was not released.

The area where he fell is east of the Mountain Loop Highway.
